I actually was a writer before I became a sewer. Excuse me, sewist. Isn't it sad and disgusting that sewer and sewer are the same word? And they say learning Mandarin is hard...
I actually still am a writer. I'm a Professional Freelance Content Writer. That's my "real" job. You may recognize my byline from epic reads like "These Guinea Pig Costumes Are Almost Too Cute" and "This Now-$22 Refrigerator Deodorizer Is More Effective Than a Box of Baking Soda & Lasts for 10 Years." Yes, those headlines are real. Don't look them up, or I'll scream.
I actually began writing when I was a kid, years prior to taking up sewing. I wrote my own fairytales and then moved on to plays and video scripts in middle and high school. Those scripts inspired me to get a degree in film writing. And to anyone who makes the joke, "Wow, looks like that degree really paid off," all I have to say is let's be grateful that I had already graduated by the time Emerson College introduced its "Comedic Arts" BA. At least I'm not walking around with THAT on my resume.
I actually do still love to chip away at screenplays I start and then forget about and then find again and then restart again (life truly is cyclical). However, it's become increasingly hard to write creatively now that I've gotten sucked into the daily 350-word brainrot formula. I've lost my touch, and I've been craving an out. For all we know, this Etsy Pattern blog could be the bridge between guinea pig costume articles and the next great American novel, or screenplay, or whatever. It could be good for me. And for you, I guess.
I actually have a lot of thoughts on upcycling, creative processes, burnout, seeking inspiration, connecting with community, small businesses, the South Shore, getting a cease and desist letter from Dunkin' Donuts, social media, and trying to stay aware, awake, and somewhat positive in an increasingly hellish world (mhm, that's right...I'm a snowflake and proud of it, baby!).
I actually just hit 350 words, so my brain worm is screaming at me to wrap it up. I'm trying to fight it, but I'm just not that powerful yet. My next post will be about commissions and why I'll probably never take them — and yeah, you can "never say never" me, but this is my blog and I can say never if I want.
